High Oenology

Thanks to PL for this Idea

I have been thinking about how working at the wine shop is a bit like the movie High Fidelity. In describing the movie and its characters you can replace the music reference with a wine reference. The movie is based around a specialty record/wine shop that provides a service in good music/wine and hard to find records/wine. There is a record/wine geek who always tries to find the new excellent record/wine. He knows that Green Day/California Cult Cab would be no where without The Undertones/Bordeaux. There is the obnoxious employee who get pissed at the people who buy ‘I Just Called to Say I Love You’/’Little Penguin’ instead of ‘Masterblaster’/’Cloudy Bay’. There is another scene where a character measures up the customers in the store and proves they are lemmings by selling five copies of the new album by The Beta Band. I often feel like this and that I could sell any wine by just saying a few BS wine remarks. At one point the main character spends time re-ordering his music collection from alphabetical to chronological. I could see myself doing something like rearranging my wine cellar from regional to wine style, or basing it on a vintage chart and arranging the wines by when they are ready to drink. . The movie has an underlying theme based on top five lists; Top five break-ups on all time, top five songs for a Monday morning and so on…..

…So in honor of this here is my Top 5 Wines for a hot summer day
