Rodney Dangerfield of wine countries.

Sweet raisin flavoured ice wine has gained Canada some respect in the wine world but there are still a few things that need to change for Canada to be the next Sideways.

First have one VQA – I get the feeling VQA Ontario and BC VQA are a couple of kids both fighting for their parents attention by telling on each other. There should be one governing body with one VQA Symbol? We need a unification.

The Opimian - The wine society of Canada has no Canadian vintage charts. Why? They have vintage charts for England but not for Canada! When was the last time you were going on about the great wine you had from West Sussex or Glouchestershire from 1997. Someone needs to put out Vintage Charts for Canada.

I say we get rid of some of those bad wines like Hochtaler, Domain D'Or and Baby Duck or maybe instead just get rid of Andres wines which will get rid of most of the bad wine all at once. I know there is a place for these wines although I don’t really know where and don’t think I want to go there.

The VQA’s need to stop approving grapes and/or must from other countries and then labeling it a Product of Canada. If I change the oil in my car is it now known as a Baconmobile instead of a Ford…..Mmmmm Baconmobile.

We need to stop copying the rest of the world and do our own thing. Instead of using the American term Meritage lets create our own. How about Canet molding Canada with Claret. Maybe icewine could be Vinglace with Late Harvest wine could be Vinneige showing our French heritage. Sparkling wine could be known as Schiller after Johann Schiller, who is referred to as the father of Canadian Wine.

Foreign companies investing in Canadian Vineyards shows there is intrest in Canadian Wine, and with these changes I think we could beat the Rodney Dangerfield no respect aura.
